Cognitive Simulators
Our cognitive simulators offer training and assessment tools designed to mimic human cognitive processes in a controlled environment.

MSG High, with the DOD, DLI challenged the GRILL® to create a plugin aiming to improve language learning with cultural awareness and advanced AI.
Using Unity, ChatGPT, Blender, Overtone and Undertone the students created a plugin for interactive exploration of language nuances, social expectations, and cultural mannerisms through AI interactions.
DART
The Driving-based Adaptive Research Testbed (DART) allows for live connection with various physiological sensors to create a driving scenario that adapts in real time based on a multitude of variables.
Participants perform cognitive memory tasks while driving to examine driving adaptation approaches.
The testbed is an adaptive training support, where visual indicators are added or removed based on performance and physiological metrics.
Laser Eye Protection
The Optical Radiation Bioeffects Branch in the 711th HPW challenged the GRILL to make a simulation that allows people to experience the tinted vision that is caused by wearing laser eye protection.
Using Unreal Engine 4, HTC Vive Pro, and Tobii eye tracking, the students created a VR simulation which provides realistic laser effects and tint effects that come with wearing laser eye protection
VR Elevated Radial Maze
The AFRL Optical Radiation Bioeffects Branch challenged the GRILL to create a testbed for studying human approach-avoidance behavior in response to elevation and non-lethal weapons.
Using Unity, Steam VR, and the HP Omnicept the students created a customizable VR environment that will measure task accuracy and biometric responses to these otherwise harmful conditions in a controlled VR environment.
VR Laser Dazzle
AFRL tasked the GRILL with making a cheaper, safer alternative to test human performance when inhibited by a laser.
Students and GRILL staff took parameters from a C++ file and generated a plugin to model the effects of a real laser within the Unreal Engine, creating a fully-functional virtual reality experience.
